RWCFoodie broke the news of a new Mexican ice cream and popsicle shop in Redwood City last month. Los Manguitos Neveria y Paleteria opened on Middlefield Road recently, and when RWCFoodie stopped by there were two dozen flavors of paletas, about a dozen ice creams, and a suite of aguas frescas.
One interesting ice cream flavor is chongos—RWCFoodie explains that it translates to “curds” and it’s a milk-and-sugar combination supposedly invented by a Mexican nun who needed to find a use for milk that had gone sour. RWCFoodie reporter declares the chongos delicious, and also tried a mango paleta with chamoy, a pickled fruit condiment blended with chile.
