Boniere Bakery, once on Park Avenue in Alameda, has reopened on Grand Avenue in Oakland. moto classifies their baked goods as “conventional Euro-American sweet stuff.” Ruth Lafler says their products are like typical American supermarket bakery treats “without all the additives, HFCS, trans fats, etc.”
A few hounds fondly remember Boniere’s malasadas—Portuguese doughnuts traditionally prepared before Lent—and their traditional cake doughnuts. Unfortunately, the small size of the new bakery prevents them from firing up the deep-fat fryer to produce doughnuts. Too bad.
