Van Horn Sandwich Shop opened its backyard patio last weekend, which means Cobble Hill locals can tuck into BLPs (BLTs with pimento cheese) and fried chicken sandwiches under the shade of a maple tree.
The North Carolina–born owners—friends since childhood—created a menu of favorites from their hometown. We mentioned Van Horn’s opening back in January, and now hounds are starting to file reports on what’s good.
tex.s.toast says the fried chicken is “a bit pricey” but “worth it,” since it was “fried fresh to order and perfectly moist.” The restaurant’s fried sweet potato, lettuce, and tomato sandwich could have been improved with bacon, thinks tex, but he loves tipping back one of the half-dozen beers on draft in a garden that he reports “is comfy and homey.” (We’re fans of Captain Lawrence’s Liquid Gold, which is on tap.)
