If you cook terrific burgers, and top them with the perfect fixings, bring the whole meal up a notch with homemade buns.

If your ideal is a soft white bun, Chowhounds recommend using the white bread from Peter Reinhart’s The Bread Baker’s Apprentice; smtucker makes the second variation with buttermilk. “For an over the top bun, make brioche rolls,” recommends Dcfoodblog. These light brioche buns “are good and because of them I won’t make burgers without also making buns,” says rob1234.

Some hounds prefer adding onions. Krislady‘s favorite is these onion buns, and absurdnerdbird says Junior’s onion rye rolls are “great for burgers or sandwiches.”

CCSPRINGS shares his secret: “Take pizza dough and cut into squares, coat with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and some dried herbs and bake till lightly crisp. It is like a mini focaccia. I love these with bison cheddar mushroom burgers.”

If your burger taste runs to sliders, CHOW has a bun recipe to match.
