A new Persian restaurant in Campbell, Pooya, eclipses its local competition and is the best Persian food eqjosh has had in the Bay Area. In fact, it’s almost as good as the restaurants in LA’s Westwood, a.k.a. Tehrangeles.

Things start off well with “totally outrageous” kashk-e bademjan, a grilled eggplant appetizer with crispy fried onions. Served with warm, freshly baked flatbread, this could be a light meal in itself. Like chicken kebab? Then you’ll love joojeh (game hen) kebab. “Totally delectable,” eqjosh says, with nicely glazed skin dripping with flavor and the zing of lemon. You’ll need a knife for the thickly cut filet mignon kebab, or chelo kebab barg, but the meat is tender and perfectly pink inside. Koobideh has just the right texture of ground beef, with good flavor and juiciness, but the chicken version is less impressive.
