“It’s the real deal,” daveyj declares, reflecting on a meal at Katsuno. This Forest Hills restaurant, opened in November by the former chef at the well-regarded Seo in Manhattan, is impressing Chowhounds with authentic yet inventive Japanese food. The prices are high, especially for Queens, but so is the quality of the food.
Greg describes a sushi course featuring expertly prepared fish, presented with attention to detail. “They’re definitely serving the best sushi in the Forest Hills/Rego Park/Kew Gardens area,” he says, “and they have some tasty and unique dishes on the menu that you won’t find at the other neighborhood Japanese joints.” Among them are cold stewed pumpkin, tofu with yuba (soy-milk skin), a variety of noodle dishes including Inaniwa udon from northern Japan, and an intriguing sea urchin and salmon sashimi salad that has food bloggers talking.
