yumyum is so hepped up on Chef Michael Scelfo's newish menu of drinking snacks at Russell House Tavern that she can barely type. She writes that she's "been swooning over the deep fried poached chip-in egg at Russell House Tavern for a while now. But last night I had a small plate that blew me AWAY."
The special in question: "Fiore de latte burrata with walnuts and fried shallots (onions?). ZOMG ... I know I know it sounds so simple, and it is. But it's the kind of thing that comes together perfectly, with the gooey middle of the cheese running around your palate and the light drizzle of olive oil adding a peppery punch, and the walnuts providing a little crunch. Really really swoony good."
yumyum and her friend also had a wonderful foie terrine that was doused in Laphroaig single-malt Scotch. "If you like smokey peaty whisky flavors, you will love this dish. It is not for the faint of heart however." The white anchovy toast with marcona almonds is "lovely" and "assertive," and the beef heart ravioli was "BOLD and beefy, as it should be. The Scelfster isn't holding back on his flavors, and I like it."
