mla3 has been looking high and low for true Italian cornetti—the slightly sweet, nongreasy crescent cookie that is the truest partner for a morning cappuccino. mla3 has “gone on some wild goose chases and invariably sobbed into my elbow with disappointment.”
She finally found them at Cafe Bella Roma. These are the real deal, baked on the premises in a tiny, impressive little eatery.
“I have been known to buy 2 dozen at a time (giving the Roman owner-baker, Roberto, a nice sweaty morning), so I could eat several hot from the oven (and then, with his indulgence, bring them back to my freezer when cool),” admits mla3. “They resuscitate amazingly well in a low heat oven.”
