A late dinner at Jeffrey’s Grocery hit the spot for kathryn. Her grilled cheese sandwich with beef was all “ooey and gooey” comfort. Seafood stew (with bass, cockles, fingerlings, grape tomatoes, and capers) demanded bread for sopping up every last drop of broth. Clam chowder and Caesar salad are other good bets, jdross19 adds.

As its name suggests, Jeffrey’s Grocery is also a market, offering a locavorish line of meats, produce, cheeses, condiments, candy, and other provisions. The dining area is relatively small, so expect a crowd—perhaps even larger since nearby sister restaurant Joseph Leonard was shuttered by a fire. “My husband got a kick out of their very 1990s playlist in comparison to the faux old-timey ceiling fixtures and design,” kathryn writes. “The food, however, was excellent.”
