We’re very excited to announce that New Yorkers will be able to turn on the television and absorb CHOW’s local coverage starting this week on NY1. Our New York contributing editor, Alex Van Buren, is taking to the airwaves weekly, reporting on what’s new, delicious, and noteworthy across the five boroughs.

And about Alex: She’s a food-writing pro, a byline you may have seen on Grub Street, Gourmet, and Slashfood, and a true enthusiast on the New York eating and drinking scene.

This broadcast thing is a new world for us in which one doesn’t actually have to click; commenters can’t register their complaints or adorations immediately; and the number of viewers is an amorphous approximation. It’s rather endearing. We like the idea of Alex’s voice emanating from televisions as people get ready to go to work or take a coffee break, and we hope you enjoy her reports.

This week, Alex announces a few imminent openings and then visits Sixpoint Craft Ales to investigate its new spelt beer. Can mad scientists really identify a Mad Scientist beer?
