El Huipil, recently opened in downtown Maynard, is getting what Kat calls “positive word of mouth.” The food is classic gringo-friendly Mexican: tacos, flautas, tamales, burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas, enchiladas. Or you’ve got your meat plates with rice and beans: carne asada, chicken mole, chorizo, al pastor.
“I am way far from a Mexican food expert, but it seemed pretty authentic,” avowed snippet, who had a vegetarian enchilada with red sauce, which came on a platter with rice, beans, and fresh “not iceberg” lettuce with “ripe chopped tomato, small thing but appreciated.” The whole shebang was a jaw-droppingly cheap $5.95.
Kat had the chorizo tacos and loved them: “The food seemed home cooked.” The tacos were great, “spicy ground sausage, yum.” A side of guacamole was “very fresh.”
