Maybe it’s because it’s hot, maybe I’ve been having certain cravings, but the insanely tempting photos of chocolate sorbet this week on Smitten Kitchen put me over the edge. I dare you to look at them and not want to rush out to your nearest scoop shop. Oh sure, there’s a recipe posted, but who can be patient enough to wait that long? One peek at these most excellent pics and you’ll be needing chocolate sorbet now.

Apparently the recipe tastes as good as it looks.

It goes by the innocent-sounding name chocolate sorbet but even typing those words was enough to send my resistance into a tailspin and I had to go into the freezer to get another taste, cursing [David] Lebovitz the whole way there and whispering sweet nothings into my spoon on the way back.

The recipe is from Lebovitz’s The Perfect Scoop, the book that ruled my summer last year. Once I get back from the scoop shop I might have to pull it out again (Mojito granité, are you still waiting for me?). There’s also the famed three-chocolate gelato cookoff (freeze-off?) that Melissa at the Traveler’s Lunchbox undertook a while back, for those of you who roll that way.

Time to reacquaint myself with the ice cream machine. I’m so glad it’s summer again.
