Chef Gator Thompson, whose last restaurant Dollie Marie’s was mourned by his fans after it closed, has a new Southern (New Orleans, actually) restaurant in downtown San Jose, Bayonne.

emi50 loved the crab cakes and butternut squash salad, while “a friend said it was the best, most moist fried chicken she has ever had anywhere.” Fellow diners who said they eat in New Orleans often also gave the food a thumbs-up. Good bets: honey glazed chicken wings, collard greens, green beans, and coconut-pineapple cake.
