Indus Express is a welcome sight on the Midtown lunch landscape, an Indian makeover of a standard-issue deli. Opened by the owners of the hound-endorsed Indus Valley uptown, it includes a steam table, roll and wrap station, and chaat bar.

cimui loves the made-to-order chaat, especially aloo tikki (spiced potato patty with mint) and bhel poori (rice puffs, noodles, potato, chile, onion, cilantro, and tamarind). “They are ∗∗good∗∗!!” she declares, and a cut above those at another Midtown chaat house, Sukhadia’s. Indus Express also makes dosas, uttappams, and other South Indian snacks—skippable, cimui advises.
