Serious Eats points out that the TV crime drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit took “ripped from the headlines” to new heights in Wednesday night’s episode, in which Robin Williams played a character whose alibi is that he wasn’t at HappiBurger, the fast-food restaurant that was the scene of the crime—because he’s a locavore.
“What the hell’s that?” Detective Stabler asks him.
“It means I only buy organic seasonal foods grown by local farmers,” Williams’s character says.
It’s very odd to hear the Michael Pollan-esque rhetoric being used as dialogue in a cop show. The funny thing is, even though Williams’s character is supposed to be crazy, he makes perfect sense.
