Eat, Drink, Watch, Listen
Ethical eating and continued curiosity about the behind-the-scenes drama of commercial kitchens set the stage for this year’s crop of culinary cinema. Catherine Zeta-Jones spent time in the back of the house to prep for her starring role as a head chef in No Reservations, a remake of the German film Mostly Martha. Food for thought came in the form of King Corn, a documentary exposing the dark side of America’s largest crop. Adrienne Shelly’s Waitress spun a tale about a poor waitress trapped in an unhappy marriage. And Disney’s Pixar-produced Ratatouille was a national crowd-pleaser, except perhaps in New York City where the premise of vermin invading a restaurant hit a little too close to home.
