Looks like Great Britain didn’t get the macaron memo: Whoopie pies are being touted by the Telegraph as the next cupcake in the land of rain and first-rate dental care.

The sponge cake and buttercream sandwiches are going like gangbusters:

“The first mainstream shop to sell them was Harrods, which introduced the treats at the end of last year. They are proving so popular that the department store has had to hire extra staff to meet demand.”

Is Britain ahead of the American trendsters on this one? Apparently not: The New York Times hailed the dawn of the whoopie pie craze last March.
