The Stags Leap District, a valley-within-the–Napa Valley, is only a mile wide and two miles long, but it produces some of the best Cabernets in the area. For the last 11 autumns, the Stags Leap District Winegrowers Association has offered special limited-edition boxes of its Appellation Collection, containing a Cabernet from each of the 15 wineries in the district, usually the same vintage. Among the offerings are bottles from Clos du Val, Stags’ Leap Winery, and Regusci. Only 300 boxes are sold each year, and they’re only available through November (online, or if you’re in a state where alcohol can’t be shipped you can call). At $1,200 a box, it’s not cheap. But if you’ve got the dough, there would be no classier present for a wine-lover. And if you are a little short, you could go in with friends to buy this as a wedding gift for a couple just starting their cellar.
