Have you been making your onigiri properly?
I recently found out that making this staple of Japanese bento box lunches is a lot harder than it looks. According to a video by the spoofers at Japan Culture Lab, I’ve been remiss in several areas. I don’t generally prepare for making these nori-wrapped treats by tossing salt for purification, and I rarely use sake to purify my spatula (and insides) before getting started. I don’t even own one of the main utensils for preparing these delicious rice balls: a katana.
