And with things like dalgona coffee and pancake cereal becoming popularized during the pandemic, it should come as no surprise that one of the most searched recipes at the moment also began its life as a viral social media star.

Pinterest shared with us that carrot bacon is currently the most popular vegetable recipe on the visual sharing platform, which first drew a presence on TikTok—of course—before finding a popularity on Pinterest. In the last two weeks, there have been several thousand searches for the recipe.

This vegan alternative to the pork product is made by slicing a large carrot into bacon-sized ribbons, marinating it in a mix of tahini, neutral oil, maple syrup, soy sauce, and liquid smoke (yes, you read that right), which helps give the carrots that same smoky flavor. The carrots are then arranged on a baking sheet and slipped into the oven until crisped up and brown. We imagine these are great as is, but would also be well suited were it flanked by some sunny-side-up eggs, hash browns, and some buttery toast.
