Central New Jersey’s Korean scene isn’t nearly as large or lively as the sprawling enclave to the north in Bergen, but hounds have found a few go-to spots.
One is Kimchi Hana in South Plainfield, which hits the mark on a variety of dishes, including barbecue, chap chae (glass noodles with vegetables and meat), and haemul soon dubu jigae (soft tofu-seafood casserole). Great fresh panchan (side dishes), too. “The food is markedly better than at other Korean restaurants I’ve tried in central Jersey,” writes val ann c.
Edison Noodle House is a local favorite for bibim bap, dumplings, and noodles–including ja jjang myun (with black bean sauce).
For dessert and snacks, the Gateaux mini-chain has a popular outpost in Edison, where it sells delicious baked goods–both Western style and Asian style, including sesame or sweet bean buns, says piccola. It’s also a fine place to hang out over coffee or iced tea, notes BrianYarvin.
