While we were all talking about Cronuts and ramen burgers in 2013, hummus was making a stealth move that was so far under the radar, most of us didn’t even notice. The quintessential potluck dunk changed its very DNA, from a previously invariable composition of chickpeas, tahini, and lemon juice into veggie or bean purées completely free of chickpeas and tahini. It’s very, very confusing.

Fortunately, Chowhounds are on top of it. CHOW’s Chris Rochelle plotted a whole bunch of ‘hound favorites, from traditional to not even close, on this handy axis graph, with links to recipes or method instructions.
