SmithHouse Tap & Grill has been pouring beers for well over a year, but a recent face-lift to the menu and bar list caught the attention of Chowhound Wayno. The new chef is Efrain Cuevas, who oversees the food at SmithHouse’s sibling, 3Dog Cantina in Hollywood. Wayno thinks Cuevas’s new small plates are “several notches above most pub fare” (also: correspondingly pricey). Praise goes to crispy calamari with a sweet and spicy glaze, lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, and mahi mahi tacos. There’s also a sprawling beer selection (some 120 labels) and four booths with their own taps. Combine that with a lot of carefully positioned TVs, and SmithHouse looks like a serious player.
