Heads up, cocktail freaks: Kinson Lau, former manager of the elegant Gitane, recently opened Alchemist, a bar in South Beach that one Chowhound says should be on the radar of every San Franciscan (especially fans of the cult cocktails at scene-y Bourbon & Branch and Burritt Room).
The room (pictured) looks moody and industrial. But Alchemist one-ups your typical trendy lounge via an interesting delivery arrangement with a neighbor. You can order food from next door at Root, a Thai-American restaurant with a pub-grub menu perfect for the baseball crowds that’ll soon be mobbing the neighborhood en route to AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.
Turns out Root’s tater tots are some of the best in town, Pei notes on Chowhound. They’re great for soaking up Alchemist’s boozy drinks—like the savory Stop Fenneling Me, made with gin, falernum, and fennel bitters.
