When word spread that Compton’s beloved Bludso’s BBQ was opening a second location near Hollywood, anticipation was high. Last week, Kevin Bludso (joining forces with Golden State owners Jason Bernstein and James Starr) finally fired up the grills at Bludso’s Bar-&-Que, and ‘hound nosh was one of the first to show up.
The early verdict: The barbecue is every bit as good as the original’s, with the bonus of a cocktail bar. All meats are available by the quarter-, half-, or full-pound, but nosh recommends focusing on Bludso’s tender, juicy, fat-lined brisket. The rib tips and pulled pork are also solid choices, and the sides are huge.
The dining room is casual, with cans of of utensils and paper towel rolls on the tables. “I’m rooting for this place to be a rousing success,” says Jase.
