Harold & Belle’s opened 40 years ago as a family-run spot on Jefferson Boulevard with pool tables. It’s become a bit more formal since then, but still, FoodObsessive says on Chowhound, “this is a remnant of [an] old Louisiana town from the 1950’s.”
BESTFROMTHEWEST got a first taste of the food last summer at the LA County Fair, and liked it even better in the restaurant. High marks for the filé gumbo with shrimp, sausage, ham, crab, chicken, and sassafras. Also for fried chicken, catfish, or a traditional oyster po’ boy (pictured).
