The Thirsty Koala brings something novel to Astoria: chow from Australia and drinks to go with it. The menu includes Boomerang tacos filled with grilled beef, fish, or shrimp; the Aussie pressed sandwiches called jaffles; burgers crowned Down Under style with beet, pineapple, and fried egg; and, for dessert, tiramisu made from Tim Tam cookies. The first Chowhound report, which describes the fare as “Australianish” with strong Mediterranean influences, praises herb-crusted Lamb Lollies (pictured), made of organic meat from Australia, as well as a vegan moussaka with tofu and vegetables, one of a number of meatless options.
