LA is thick with shopping malls, but it’s a rule of thumb here that great retail doesn’t go hand in hand with great food. One place defying that rule: Westside Tavern, a bar and restaurant connected to both the Westside Pavilion mall and the stylish Landmark Theatres.

Westside Tavern has a dark and heavily wooded interior: long cocktail bar to the left, spacious dining room on the right. Servorg notes on Chowhound that this place hits “a comfort food homerun” via dishes like braised short ribs atop maple yams, and cinnamon-sugar doughnuts (pictured). The lamb French dip sandwich is what lures wienermobile back. That, and the big booths, friendly service, and lengthy cocktail menu.
