Celeb chef Elizabeth Falkner (pictured), who made her name in San Francisco at Citizen Cake and Orson, has gone southern Italian at Krescendo Brooklyn, which opened a month ago in the former Downtown Atlantic space. Sicilian-leaning pastas and salads are on the money, Chowhound Steve R reports. An oven imported from Naples turns out pizzas like the Californication, topped with mozzarella, goat cheese, prosciutto, Padrón peppers, and walnut-arugula pesto. Falkner is confident that New Yorkers will accept such inventions. “I think people are more open-minded about trying new things here,” she told the Daily News, “more so than on the West Coast.” Take that, California!
