Chowhounds are talking about Borgo Italia, a new regional Italian restaurant in Old Oakland, in the space formerly occupied by B Restaurant. Look out for tender Neapolitan-style pizza, homemade sausage, and torta fritta, “fresh, hot, puffy little breads with prosciutto di Parma,” Robert Lauriston says. Borgo serves coffee and pastries in the morning (it got a thumbs-up as a venue for office breakfast meetings). Espresso is made from Italian Giamaica-brand beans. Both the morning pastries and desserts are outrageously good, especially if you love whipped cream. The service is still finding its rhythm. When jaiko visited, there were no menus or signs to identify the pastries, so the person at the counter had to describe each one.
