A bombolone at Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria inspired a flight of free verse the other day on Chowhound: “Stop in midbite fresh feather light fried with a soft skin, wonderful texture and flavor inside.” That’s from wewwew, who adds that it was “one of the stellar doughnuts of my life.” Bomboloni often come filled; the ones at this grocery, bakery, deli, café, and wine bar, spun off a year ago by the nearby Italian restaurant Il Buco, don’t need the help. “No custard or jam filling,” wewwew says, “and as much as I love those, here I didn’t miss them.”
