Xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, are beloved bite-sized pockets of flavor. In a recent discussion, LA hounds combed the San Gabriel Valley to find their favorite frozen xiao long bao (XLB), ones that fans of the Shanghainese staple can steam at their leisure, at home.

PeterCC thinks Dean Sin World offers a great take-home version by the bag. Despite having been frozen for a while, the dumplings were “plump and juicy” after steaming, and were good tossed into soup. According to JThur01, a bag of 50 Dean Sin World XLB costs just $15. Meanwhile, across the street at Qingdao Bread Food, xiao long bao are $20 per bag. JThur01 thinks it’s worth crossing the street to sample both.

Mama Lu’s is another favorite, though bulavinaka says that the shop can run out of pork XLB, leaving veggie and veggie with shrimp as the only options.
