Choices abound for Indian takeout in Cambridge and Somerville. Which restaurants do Chowhounds like these days?

Tamarind Bay: Unusual menu items like Malabar fish curry and banana dumplings set this restaurant apart from other more conventional spots, and FoodDabbler thinks it’s the only Indian food worth having in the Harvard-Porter area. Others warn that prices are high and quality might be slipping.

D’Guru: A good bet for veggie dishes, though the menu here is smaller than at other Indian restaurants. ebaba tried it recently, and found the food “terrifically spiced” and “not heavy in the least.”

Passage to India: Nothing mind-blowing, just good versions of the basics. “It always hits the expected notes,” katzzz says.

The Kebab Factory: At lunch, it may have “the best Indian buffet around,” but for takeout food, it might not be as good. “The offerings on the menu are largely conventional and uninspired,” FoodDabbler says.

Tanjore: Opinions are mixed on this Harvard Square restaurant. MXG says it makes good “comfort food” dishes like chicken tikka masala and saag paneer, but FoodDabbler doesn’t even consider it a contender.
