Park Slope residents, long resigned to middling Indian food, are all over Aarpan, which opened this month on Fifth Avenue. “We were completely surprised,” says sararose, who tried the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, and lamb vindaloo. “The food was fresh, spicy, and delicious.”

The menu’s predominantly northern, but several hounds love the southern-leaning Chennai chicken (sautéed with mustard seeds, chiles, and ginger, and served in coconut-curry sauce). egit faults only a chaat of bhel puri that was made with stale puffed rice. In this Indian-challenged neighborhood, says sararose, Aarpan is “SO much better than any of the competition. I thought the food was much better than Kinara and on par with some of the Jackson Heights Indian I grew up with.”
