We mostly know Mezze for its excellent Mediterranean food, but here’s a secret: It serves truly excellent Jewish deli food during the holidays and offers a special menu every Sunday night.
The matzo ball soup is “probably the best I have had in Los Angeles,” says OC Mutt. “Run, don’t walk, to make sure you try it before it leaves the menu! I hope the chef is inspired to keep it permanently.”
The potato knish is “superb, crispy, soft, warm, and augmented by a very robust house made mustard,” and the chopped liver—served with rich, pillowy house-made challah, and grape mostarda—is spectacular, says OC Mutt. New Trial agrees: “The grapes played well against the richness of the chopped liver.” Best of all, the item is on the regular Jewish deli menu.
Also superb: Mediterranean-style chili fries, a.k.a. “Egyptian fries.” This consists of “luscious seasoned bites of brisket, feta cheese, sliced chilis, beans and other treats,” says OC Mutt. “The fries stayed amazingly crisp, salty, hot and delicious among the generous toppings and it was gobbled up by our group.”
