Food and drink that has us seeing gold
As you may have noticed, we have spent a few months on the road in Australia and one of our favorite cities out of the few we made it to was Sydney. We spent a week here exploring the diverse cocktail culture and met up with some Instagram friends to put faces to names but one experience definitely took the cake; visiting the Club InterContinental for their popular Supper Club.
The Club InterContinental is an experience generally reserved for special members at the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney Harbour though we were fortunate to discover that the hotel actually allows the public access to the beautiful 32nd floor dining room after 8pm from Thursday to Saturday. Sure we could just come here for the view and bask in the beauty of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge for a while, but while we were visiting we took the opportunity to enjoy some delicious cocktails also.
John Toubia, the resident mixologist took some time out of his schedule and set up a little portable bar for us out on the balcony where he taught us to make one of their signature cocktails. It was such a surreal experience, mixing drinks 32 stories up with the most stunning sweeping views of the harbour as a backdrop.
Sipping on delicious drinks like their featured sake cocktail with Chiyou Shizou Sake, cucumber, orange bitters, elderflower cordial and apple while taking in the breathtaking view was actually phenomenal. Once they were gone, we tried out the Shiraz Negroni, which uses Australian shiraz with peach bitters, Campari and Drambuie and was featured in ‘The Negroni: A Gaz Regan Notion’ and it lived up to it’s reputation as a remarkable variation.
I couldn’t imagine a better way to impress a date than to bring him/her up to this beautiful full service restaurant and show them you know somewhere special in the city that they may well have never visited before. The room is lit beautifully with delicious food on offer and if cocktails aren’t your thing, they are famous for their huge selection of Champagnes and have a great selection of spirits, wine and beer to quench your thirst.
