Food and drink that has us seeing gold
Whether you have money to spend or your budget is tight, few things are better than a good deal -- and let's be real, food and drink are NOT a place where we're willing to compromise. For those trying to have an early night in, we've narrowed down our Top 5 Fav Happy Hours in LA. But for those night owls, scroll down for our Fav of LA's Reverse HH's...
CECCONI’S | West Hollywood | Tues-Sat; 4-7PM - One of our all-time FAV HH’s, this spot goes from $$$$ to $ with a variety of choices in food and drink ranging from only $4-$7. The best plan of attack is the Fontina Black Truffle Burger (1 per person, trust us) and a bunch of other things to share with the table; we recommend the gnocchi, meatballs, burrata and avocado and chickpea dip with crudites. And don't forget lots of margaritas -- they're skinny after all. This is especially our spot on Saturdays because happy hours on Saturdays just don't exist as good as this one...or ever really.
PUBLIC SCHOOL | Downtown, Culver City & Sherman Oaks | Mon-Fri; 4-7PM - They call it “RECESS” and we get why because with $4 brewskies and $10 half liters of vino it will be your favorite part of the “school” day. The discounted food involved here is bomb.com too, especially the Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower ($6), Bacon Cheddar Tots ($5) and Ahi Tuna Poke ($8).
YAMASHIRO | Hollywood | Mon-Thurs; 5-8PM -The food may not be the greatest, but the view is definitely worth it. Their happy hour is outside at the Pagoda Bar where you can overlook the city and watch the sunset while grubbing on sushi and sipping on Mai Tais (everything $7). This is the perfect spot to take that family/friend from out of town, as this restaurant is a destination in itself.
FIGARO BISTROT | Los Feliz | Daily; 4-7PM - $4 mini martinis is enough of a reason to head east to this classic French hideaway. They have tons of options to make you ‘happy’, but the French Fries ($3) are a MUST. Do you really need anything other than martinis and fries? We don’t think so.
El Carmen | W. 3rd Street | Mon-Fri; 5-7PM - Their ‘hora de fiesta’ doesn’t just have small bites of guac, ceviche, nachos and quesadillas, but a full on combination plate for only $6, which includes 2 papa, 2 pollo or carnitas tacos and rice and beans. And of course they have Margaritas ($5) and Tecate ($3). This is a full on bar though (21+) so get ready for an adult kinda night if you start here.
Put my thing down, flip it and REVERSE it:
EMC SEAFOOD BAR | K-Town & Topanga Canyon | Sun-Thurs; 10PM-12AM, Fri- Sat; 10PM-2AM - First, we’ll talk booze… $5 draft beer and wine. Then… wait for it… $1.25 oysters! And they’re actually good. Not only is this one of the best deals in town, but the music and vibe is dope too. Don’t be surprised when there is a long wait because there is always a long wait. Also, don’t be surprised when it’s all worth it.
LOVE & SALT | Manhattan Beach | Sun-Thurs; 9PM-10PM & Fri-Sat; 10PM-11PM - You’re looking at $20 for your choice of either a burger or ANY pizza AND a glass of red, white or a brew. The food is so good here that it’s worth the drive even if you don’t live in the South Bay (at least you won’t hit any traffic this late). You should also probably get both the burger AND the pizza because YOLO.
JONES HOLLYWOOD | West Hollywood | Sun-Thurs; 10PM-2AM - They’ve got $4 beers, $5 you-call-it’s and house wines and $6 cocktails. Oh and we can't forget the $5 salads, $6 pizzas and $8 pastas. This old school swanky and dark bar is always a fav. Not to mention, the perfect place to end up with that date you're not quite ready to leave yet.
PIZZARIA MOZZA | Los Angeles | Sun-Thurs; 10PM-12AM - They do a pizza, dessert and glass of Bastianich wine all for $20 @ the bar only. As one of the most popular restaurants in all of Los Angeles (Chef Mario Batali - you may have heard of him) that is always booked up and not easy on the wallet, this is the time to go and get your fix for a deal.
LA POUBELLE | Franklin Village | Daily; 11-12:30PM - This is one of our personal favorite spots in the whole city, so any time we manage to stay awake until 11PM without having already eaten (ok sometimes even if we have already eaten), we're there. Reduced prices on some of their best items, such as their crispy brussel sprouts, mac & cheese, truffle fries and house wines. With UCB next door, the Scientology Center across the street and the Hollywood Hills as a backdrop, you never know who you'll see which always makes for the best people watching.
So many places, so little time!
