A Guide to Brunching in Chicago

by Mallory

Everyone loves brunch. It's basically the best meal of the day! I spend half my Saturday and Sunday mornings debating what brunch spot I am going to. I go through the check list: Do I want eggs? Something sweet? A Bloody Mary? A classic favorite? A new spot? Options in the city of Chicago are endless! I have been all over the city searching for the best, and am thrilled to share with you some of my favorites!

#MAP#

Jake Melnick's Corner Tap:

When two of the best things in the world collide you get delicious BREAKFAST FRIES! Can you say no to fresh, hand-cut fries topped with bacon, cheddar, green onions, fried eggs and Tabasco aioli? Didn't think so! Fry up an order of these while cheering on your favorite sports team all day long. You'll enjoy the cozy, warm environment and friendly staff as well! Did I mention brunch items are available all day, everyday...SCORE.

Buck's Chicken & Biscuits:

This southern spot nails every single item. Biscuits that are so flaky they will crumble with every bite. Fluffy eggs scrambled to perfection rest on a bed of buttery goodness. I also decided to spice things up and add sausage on my breakfast sandwich! While you're there don't forget to end on a sweet note and try their cinnamon roll biscuit. Thank me later....

HASH:

When I see truffle on the menu, I generally will have to try that item. This hash was no EGGception. A perfectly cooked sunny-side up egg sits on top of a bed of kale, brussels sprouts, carrots, and potatoes. WOW. There is no lack of flavor with this dish, plus it's vegetarian! Hash is an order-at-the-counter place with giant chalk boards inviting you to read what's on the menu today. It's laid back, no frills vibe is definitely a hidden gem that you will want to check out ASAP.

ELEVEN CITY DINER:

Simplicity is bliss. That's exactly what this French toast is. Thickly sliced challah is cut fresh and battered, making this French toast incredible. As much as i normally steer towards savory brunch options, I once in a while decide to go sweet with this toast. Once I take a bite, I never look back. Topping off a sweet treat with fresh food makes it healthy, right?! This spot is one of my favorites. The options are endless. They have a location in Lincoln Park and the South Loop, so you have no excuse not to go.

Bang Bang Pie:

You may think pie for brunch? Trust me on this one. Bang Bang has an avocado toast on a house made biscuit then topped with a poached egg and feta, need I say more? The plus is once you devour this delicious spin on an avo toast, you can enjoy a slice (or two) of their tasty pies!

Well, there you have it! Some of my favorite brunch items around the city. Wake up and smell the coffee because it's time for you to explore the delicious fan favorite, BRUNCH!
