Trying French 75 in Burbank -- any comments? advice?
Here's the thing -- an old friend who is extremely difficult to pin down (have seen her, I think, only twice in over 3 years) has suggested French 75 in Burbank for this Saturday early evening dinner get together. Three couples.
So, while I am not rushing to try this place, I'm not sure if I want to disrupt her plans and suggest somewhere more chowish. But there's nothing I hate more than paying for substandard food when I know we could have just eaten somewhere better and probably had a similar hole in our wallet but happier tastebuds...
So, is this place okay or am I going to wish I'd lobbied for Pinot Bistro or somewhere else? (Suggestions welcome.)
Please advise, 'hounds!
For the record -- I hate the crappy food at Wine Bistro. Have always had a nice meal at Pinot Bistro (but it's been a while since we were there last). Used to love Max, but got bored with the never changing menu (again, it's been a while). Love Lucques and Grace and Angelini Osteria and places like that.
Don't really know any of the places in Burbank area. Would prefer dining in St City or Sherman Oaks, anyway. Handier for all of us.
Suggestions requested!!

Unbelievable Homeade Potato Chips instead of the Fries.

Good to know! Are the steaks any good?

The Steaks are fine but the Short Ribs are the way to go.

French 75 is worth trying - it's a bit on the spendy side, but the food is quite good. I had the duck - which had foie gras, breast and confit...and it was prepared perfectly. The short ribs are also delicious. They have a great happy hour, with reasonably priced carafes of wine, and the ambiance in the bar is great too.
Homemade chips are delicious!

My husband had the filet but was not really impressed (Arnie Morton's is RIGHT next door if you're yearning for a steak). What we like to do is meet up with another couple or two and take over the lounge area of the bar which is really cozy with fluffy couches and velvety chairs and subdued lighting (imagine a French bordello, design-wise). You can order off the lounge menu (small plates)as to try more of a variety of dishes, or the dinner menu. We prefer it to the formality of the dining room, but you can always wait until you arrive to decide.

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. If there's duck on the menu (at a French place) I'll invariably try that. Will reserve steak for a nice steakhouse, another time. (Not such a big fan of shortribs, tho the ones my sweetheart had at Lucques with horseradish cream were outstanding.)
I like the sound of the lounge setting (love small plates), but I'll have to see what the others want to do. Nice to know you can decide when you get there.
Hear the vibe there is very chic and French. Hope the food measures up.
Thanks again, 'hounds. You guys always come through.

The food is is certainly good enough and the interior decor blows pinot bistro's out of the water. Try to enjoy yourself.

I s'pose I was a bit nervous bc there isn't much on this site about this place (well, no posts about the Burbank location, really) and my friend isn't really a foodie.
Don't worry -- now that I have learned the decor is glam, and heard other people's recs, I am all set to have a nice time!!
