Chocolate Silk Pie in SF Valley - help!
Coco's (yes, Coco's-don't laugh) used to make a pie named Double Chocolate Silk Pie. It was really intensely chocolatey. They have stopped making it, and now only offer chocolate cream pie.
The filling for the Silk pie was unlike most "cream" pies, all goopy like pudding or even yogurt. It was more "genache-y" (is that a word?) in both texture (not goopy) and taste (much more intense than the chocolate in most cream pies I've tasted).
The other night I saw on the Food Network a special on pies. They had one place in New York City that made a pie that looked along the same lines, but that's pretty G.U., and $25 for a pie to be Federal Expressed just doesn't cut it (no pun on words, folks), I'd rather pick it up fresh in person.
Any houndish suggestions for a good substitute? I live in the San Fernando Valley, and would prefer to stick to the east valley - Sherman Oaks-Studio City-North Hollywood-Van Nuys, even Encino or Tarzana. But would be willing to stretch that slightly for the right pie.
Thanks for any and all suggestions!
GK in SO

I know Marie Callendars makes a chocolate silk pie or something with a very similar name. How it tastes - I can't tell you. We had one along with 4 other pies at Thanksgiving and I never got around to tasting it. I know others liked it a lot.
Clementine has a chocolate cream pie - delicious but pudding-y and in Century City.
Good luck!

If there's a Baker's Square in the SF Valley, I'd go there.
