Los Angeles Area

Thai in Burbank

Does anyone know of a good Thai place in the Burbank area? I work close to the Ghindi Thai on Riverside, but come on, the place serves sushi and Japanese food...and their Thai leaves much to be desired. I've only seen a few postings for Exotic Thai and Chadakah(?). Has anyone been there, and is the food good? I've been to Thai town in Hollywood, so I am aware of other places, but it's hard to make the drive when I'm pressed for time during lunch.

Thanks!

  1. Chadaka is upscale-ish Thai. It's fine but it's a bit too precious for me.

I don't know where you are in Burbank but Thai Gulch (that's Sherman Way between the 170 and Woodman) has a number of excellent, dirt cheap Thai places, including Bua Siam, Sunshine, Swan, Krua, Khun Dang, Sanamluang and Sri Siam.

I'm in the Media District where all the studios are. Thai Gulch seems a bit far to me...we usually don't hop on the freeway for lunch...too short of a timespan to travel. And I'm not quite sure where that is exactly.
Any places you recommend in particular?

Well, I wrote the list of recommended places in my reply, and where it is.

"I want great Thai without having to get off of Alameda" is not a reasonable request, unfortunately -- while Chadaka is good and it's just up Olive, the remaining Thai places are just "meh"... and by the time you park in downtown Burbank, you could have driven to NoHo.

Which is great...but that's it, you just wrote a list of places and I can't tell which one is really good.

I think that DU's point is that all of the places that he mentioned are good. I've been to all of them except Khun Dang and I like them all. My favorite is Sri Siam but even though they recently expanded, they are small. Some of my favorite dishes there are on the menu up on the wall that is only in Thai.
If I had to pick one place, especially to go to with a group of co-workers it would be Krua Thai. It's a big space with a large menu of well prepared food and I love the Coconut Smoothie!

Agreed.... you're right by the 134 anyway, then zip up the 170, exit Sherman Way going west, and you've entered Thai Restaurant Heaven.

All these places have parking lots (and/or free street parking) right outside the restaurants, so parking and walking will not eat up your valuable lunch time. Also, the prices will be about 20-40% cheaper that what you'll get at a non-Thai Thai place.

Thanks so much for your clear explanations. I know where I'll be eating this week!
