Pacific Coast Grill in Solana Beach - kid friendly?
We're supposed to have dinner with an older friend of the family who wants to meet our 3-year-old son. I'd rather not go to a chain restaurant, if possible, but will if there are no alternatives. I was thinking about the Pacific Coast Grill, but I've never been. Does anyone know if it's kid-friendly? It doesn't have to have a kids' menu and crayons, but I'd like someplace that has high chairs and won't be disgusted that we brought our well-behaved toddler along.

I've taken my young kids to PCG without any problem. They have a kid's menu and patio seating, if you're worried about the noise/mess that three year-olds can generate.

Is it any good anymore? It use to be our favorite go to place in the 90's and early 00's but went downhill when the original owners--Goldberg & ?-- sold it. They had a new chef who was trying to duplicate the original menu and it just wasn't coming out right. I haven't been back in about 3 years. How is it now?

I consider PCG pretty good but not great. It's a lively scene with good service but the dishes can be inconsistent. I go on an occassion, but I feel there there are better restaurants. However, it's always busy so I'm obviously the minority.

King's Fish House--they have more than one, but I don't consider it a chain.

When did Goldberg sell it? My husband did some not-for-profit work with him about 1 year ago and he still layed claim to owning it. Perhaps it was just a new chef?

Well, I could be wrong. I thought it was years ago. But now I just did a quick search and found some info on SignonSanDiego that shows he was still involved in 2006. Perhaps with all the new projects he's involved in--Belly Up and the restaurant next to it, etc.,--he's taken his eye off his first baby.
