Barnyard - holy crap, Ave C is getting a cheese shop!
We have a brand new cheese shop opening on Ave C between 9th and 10th streets. After living here for exactly one year, and dealing with the withdrawal of having lived 2 blocks from Murray's, this cheese/meat shop is a very welcomed addition. I'm especially hoping they'll have fresh baguettes delivered, as we are seriously lacking in bread over here, too.
Anyone know when they'll open? I just passed by this afternoon. It looks all set up w/ a worker inside, but the door was locked.

I did stop by again last night, and they were open! They've been open since Tuesday. Not a huge selection of cheese yet - about a dozen - but the variety will be expanding as the week goes on. They also carry some dried meats and fancy grocery items, like cracker, chocolate and olive oil. Also happy to report that they have fresh bread!

Just to add some info, this is from the same people who run Brix, a good wine store just around the corner (on 9th). It's a welcome addition to the hood.

The bread that they sell at Barnyard is THE only place in this neighborhood to get super fresh crusty baguettes as well as about 4 or 5 different kinds everyday...thank GOD! They are getting all their bread from Grand Daisy Bakery (spin-off of Sullivan St, but better the owner tells me) and they are making all their sandwiches on it as well. Was just in today and they have a lot of cool stuff in addition to the great cheeses: prosciutto di Parma, organic eggs, sausage, olives in bulk, nuts, pastas, sauces. You can make a meal out of it and we have the last couple of days.

I really like Barnyard. Kudos from the Brix guys for opening the place - I'll admit that it's a bit expensive though.
@LRS - Yeah, we really do need a good fish shop. I'm sick of having to rely on Whole Foods or Essex Market.

Barnyard's really been filling out lately with new cheeses, olive and nut mixes and some prepared foods. The sandwiches are a little expensive but they've all been tasty. Guacamole looked good, and it looks like they have some homemade tortilla chips, too.
Cupcakes are from Crumbs. I also tried a pecan pie they had out on Thurs night, which was great.
