Squash Blossoms in Tampa Bay?
Does anyone know or has anyone found a place to buy squash blossoms at or around Tampa Bay? This is perfect blossom weather and I am CRAVING blossom quesadillas.

I would also be interested in hearing about huitlacoche sightings in the bay area. The Exito market on Waters and Armenia use to sell huitlacoche but I have not been in since they changed ownership.

I am pretty sure we have seen them at Din Ho before but we were there last week buying greens and I don't remember seeing them then.

It's in the same little plaza as China Yuan, on Waters just north of Armenia. The Exito seems to have gone out of business or turned into the National. BTW, China Yuan's dim sum certainly was unimpressive today.

It was good last week before we went to Din Ho. But it was very slow so everything was made fresh.

At the risk of thread-hijacking ... I think this is really a minority opinion, but I consistently prefer the dim sum at Ho Ho Choi on Fletcher. It tastes much more like what I am used to having in the big dim-sum houses in big, busy chinatowns in Toronto, New York, San Fran, etc. China Yuan just doesn't taste as much like classic dim sum to me and they don't have the rhythm of the experience down, and it was particularly clumsy this past weekend. Their chili oil kicks butt though.

Continuing with the thread hijack lol, have you figured out the secret ingredient in the chili oil?
I am a native Fl girl and have never lived anywhere with a big Chinatown area. I have been to NYC a few times as my husband is from there but never done the dim sum experience. I usually get the same things dim sum wise at China Yuan. Steamed fish balls, shrimp dumplings, and if splurging on dessert the pineapple pastry.

No I don't know what that 'secret ingredient' is but there sure is one ... there's a special taste to it that I just ***love***.
I agree - the dishes are the same - they just don't seem to have nailed the neat little packages and classic taste to me.
I didn't mean to sound like I was showing off how many places I had been or anything ... I travel a lot for work and eat a lot when I travel. :-)

I totally agree about the HHC dim sum. I was really looking forward to trying China Yuan and was sorely disappointed when compared to the HHC dim sum I'd had the week before. I just wasn't impressed with CY at all and for non-dim sum, I think I prefer Yummy House. I got the dumplings at CY and they just had way too much soy inside and were overly salty, almost to the point of being inedible.

I think their soups and regular menu are better than the dim sum. We usually get some dumplings,a soup, an entree and some type of green.
