Ideas for two dinners to get a feel for Portland?

We will be in town in a couple of weekends and were hoping for reccomendations of one casual spot and one that is local-food focused (and perhaps a bit nicer- its for a birthday), or anything that is just awesome.

Thanks!

  1. Casual: Kenny & Zukes Deli, Pok Pok, Ken's Artisan Pizzeria
Locavorish/Nicer: Wildwood, Sel Gris, Le Pigeon

Although the two words I most often use to describe Portland are "active" and "artistic", I think the town is best described as a place where people enjoy the 4 B's: Bands, Books, Bikes and Beer. To get a proper feel of the town, you have to cross the river into neighborhoods like Sellwood, Laurelhurst, Hawthorne, etc.

Agree, and one more for the BD: Paley's.
And to be picky so you'll be able to find it: called Ken's Artisan Pizza.
Another casual or perhaps happy hour would be Pambiche.
