Need Seafood Recommendations - San Diego
Apologies for posting what's probably the 50th "best seafood restaurant" post, but a search turned up scattered suggestions and I wanted to consolidate.
We are looking to treat my sister-in-law and her husband to a nice dinner to thank her for buying all the food for my son's 2nd birthday party. She lives in San Diego and only eats seafood (no meat).
We'd like to get something like a $150 - $200 gift certificate.
Some of the suggestions I've seen that look good are Azul, Nine-Ten and Market (not really a "seafood" place but it looked good). Any comments on these or other suggestions? Price isn't really a concern.

If you're spending that amount money -- Oceanaire is probably your best bet and will result in a VERY NICE dinner for two...

I agree with the the previous poster about OCEANAIRE. Some people might say otherwise because it is not an independently owned establishment, but they really know how to get it right. The service is great and you can not do better as a gift as specific as you are looking for. They have an upscale wine list.
If you would like them to have an ocean view, you could also check with the Top of the Market, it is the nicer side (upstairs) of the Fish Market.

Thanks. We have an Oceanaire here in DC (where I live) and know that it's very good.

A R VALENTIEN. Reserve on the terrace and when you make the reservation, ask if you can have a special menu made up of seafood offerings only for your special guest. Or ask to speak to a chef regarding what will be available the night you intend your visit. They love giving this kind of service and excel at it.

Ooops. Sorry I missed that you were interested in a gift certificate. My suggestion stands, however. I know of no other San Diego high-end restaurant with fresher seafood, a beautiful outdoor terrace, and a better chance at good service than most SD places. Their website sucks. But just google for reviews. If you don't know the place, it's on the Torrey Pines Golf Course and has a gorgeous view, Chef of the Year, Jeff Jackson, is a San Diego Treasure. Most of these chowhounders are looking for the next new thing. ARV is a classic in the best sense. (I am a former Virginian with many fond DC food memories.)
