Pietastic: Bigger, Better Mission Pie

This came up in another thread, but it seems like it needed more press. Mission Pie moved from its former digs on 25th, a half block east of Mission, to another storefront in the same building, this time smack on the southeast corner of 25th and Mission. The new space is probably 5 times the size of the original, sunnier and a lot easier to find.

So far the menu's the same. Gradually they intend to phase all the baking work into the new location. That load had been carried by Destination Bakery out in Glen Park.

I was at Destination a few months ago and heard someone there say that the Mission Pie treats are different from the standard stuff they make at DB--I think they add whole wheat flour to many of the doughs and have a vegan muffin option. DB is more of a white flour-lotsa butter place (which is fine by this gal). It'll be interesting to see how that change in process and perspective will inform the offerings.

I had a blueberry muffin for breakfast but should have gone for one of their pies--the banana cream is good (though I don't love the crust), aprium and strawberry looked delicious.

I didn't ask if they had wireless, but should have inquired. There are a couple big communal tables and some sturdy smaller tables that seem like nice places to while away a few work hours, without the hipster meat market feel of many of the coffee shops around these parts.

  1. Well said. I had a piece of the banana cream pie last Sunday (the last day in their old digs), and it was quit good. But beyond that it's always been a pleasent, cheerful place to go.
