Chepachet Rhode Island, any foodie places around here
Never been but going sometime soon and staying a few days so would appreciate any recommendations for breakfast, lunch, dinner and bakeries within 5 miles of here. Also any places in this area we should not miss? Thanks you very much

I'm a big fan of Crystal Lake Golf Club, about 5 minutes out of town, gorgeous outdoor seating overlooking golf course & lake. Food isn't gourmet or spectacular, but it's good, reliable, inexpensive and has a HUGE menu. The daily specials page alone tends to have 5 appies, maybe 7-8 entrees and 7-8 sandwiches. Brand new bldg, very clean, so it's still worth going if the weather doesn't cooperate. Full bar, but again nothing spectacular in the beer or wine selections. I go for the lovely outdoor seating.

About 15-20 miles west of Chepachet (following Route 44 all the way) is Pomfret, CT, which is where the Vanilla Beach Cafe is located. The "Bean" is one of my personal favorites, with soups, salads, and sandwiches as well as full entrees, and they have good desserts, too. They have outdoor dining in the warmer months, and the town itself is a gem of a place that is well worth exploring.

Thanks, really looking for excellent food and would be great on the water. But would love some secret bakeries, gourmet shops, farms with farm stands and fresh milk from the farm would make e very happy.

about 10 mins west on 44 is a place on a lake (no outdoor seating tho I don't think).....it's changed hands since the last time I had been (years ago) so I don't have a clue what sort of food, what the name is, or if it's good. But you couldn't miss it.....head down 44 and it's set back from the road w/a huge parking lot in front.
Are you aware of just how rural an area you're going to? Bakeries and gourmet shops don't really exist (not w/in 5 miles anyway). There's this place for salad greens and goatmilk soap:

About 12 miles away (102 north to Great Rd) in North Smithfield is Wright's Dairy Farm (not to be confused with Wright's Farm Restaurant).....they sell their own milk and have a retail store w/a large bakery.

The place on the water--is that Europa? I was wondering about that place, too.

hiddenboston, I just ran across it....it's called Clasico's....a mix of tex-mex and old seafood favorites from the old State Line restaurant that used to be in that location (remember the 2 for 1 seafood specials?). Newly renovated. Looks like it's worth checking out.

Oh I had no idea but I want to be in the middle of no where but I want to be able to do fun short day trips from there. Any other thoughts would make me happy, thanks.

If you want to do a nice day trip nearby, head over to Pomfret (see my earlier post about the Vanilla Bean Cafe) and take a drive on Route 169. It has been declared one of America's scenic byways, and is especially nice this time of year. Lots of working farms, country stores and gift shops, little restaurants, historic sites, and beautiful views.
Beside the Vanilla Bean, there are a few other restaurants on or near Route 169, including Harvest (in Pomfret), the Inn at Woodstock Hill (Woodstock), The Golden Lamb Buttery (Brooklyn), and another one of my favorite spots, the Sharpe Hill Vineyard in Pomfret, which is a vineyard and winery that also serves limited lunches and dinners (I'd call ahead on that one).

Are you camping or staying w/family? For daytrips, definitely take hiddenboston's suggestion of the Putnam area (google "ct quiet corner" for ideas). Also look at ctwine.com For an easy city daytrip, Providence is about 30 minutes away. You could also head down to the beaches (maybe 40 mins south). Wickford RI, Newport RI....all do-able as daytrips.
hiddenboston, Europa is near there but across the street from the water. I forget what the waterside place used to be called, but it's that place that for years had seafood specials.....like pick 2 from a list (shrimp scampi, fish dishes, lobster) for like $15.99?

Thanks and if you think of anything else please let me know!

Hmmmm, waterside dining.........is it the Water's Edge you're thinking of? Actually, that's in Greenville....
Is it Chester's? I don't think that's on the water, is it?

no, it's on 44 west of Chepachet, not east. Near Europa, but across the street. I just mapquested the area.....it's where Bowdish Lake bumps up against Rt 44, right before the CT line.

Hmm, I was just in that area, too, scouting out all the restaurants along Route 44. I must have missed that one.
Not to hijack the thread, but, how are the Gentleman Farmer in North Scituate and Firehouse Hot Dogs in Johnston? Actually, maybe I'm not hijacking it, because both places are near Chepachet. ;-b

Apparently that is still considered Chepachet....it's 5.7 miles west of Chepachet center.

What county is this in so I can research for more foodie and farms in the area? Thanks

County? I don't know actually....people in RI don't tend to think about counties much.
If you're using that farmfresh site I gave you, just use the zip code for chepachet, it'll allow you to widen to a radius you choose (5 miles out, 10, etc). But trust me when I tell you there is very little in the area. I've lived in northern RI all of my 43 yrs.

....and some local farmstands:

I believe Firehouse Hot Dogs is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and caters to the late-night crowd once the bars/clubs in Providence close.

I'm heading to Burlingame Campground in Charlestown this weekend. Any good places to get fresh seafood in the area?
You realize the area we're discussing is nowhere near Burlingame, right? You'd be better off starting your own thread, or doing a board search for Charlestown, Westerly, even Mystic CT or Wakefield RI.
