Visting DC next week: Nightlife / Bar / Pub recs?

Hi all, will be in town with my girlfriend next Monday through Wed. Would like a few recommendations for good bars / pubs / clubs - not looking at these places for meals, more for a drink or two after dinner and a good time - trendy, hopefuly 30'sish or younger crowd. We're staying around Dupont Circle (no car) but are willing to venture wherever public transportation can get us as long as its reasonably safe.

  1. Best bet around Dupont is Eighteenth Street Lounge.

If you venture over to 14th Street, I'd recommend Bar Pilar for tapas and their very popular cocktail night (Tuesdays only). Also, St. Ex on 14th and T has a fun bar scene and great food to boot. Further down 14th is Cork, a cute wine bar with really good eating.

Head down to Penn Quarter and you should go to Indebleu, Jaleo, Zaytinya or Zola. All very hip places with good bar scenes and good food.

I hate 18th St. Lounge. They make a decent dirty martini, but the scene, line, cover charge, PLUS overpriced drinks. Ick.

14th Street is nice - the bar at St. Ex is nice. Good food.

St Ex also has an incredible selection of single malt scotches if you are so inclined.

      2. re: Culocho

agree on 18th street lounge, especially for a weekday drink

        1. re: cleveland park

Yes only tolerable on a weekday night in my opinion.

Also worth checking out in the Dupont area would be Hudson (although the drinks are a tad pricey, but you can grab some food as well).

Otherwise I would take the short walk over to U St and check out Marvin, St. Ex, Tabaq, or Local 16.

In Adams Morgan I enjoy the outside deck at Bourbon or the roof top deck at the Reef.

You also might want to check out Science Club. Seems to be trendy with young folks, but in a tolerable way :)

Good call on Marvin. Good food, good drink.

Whast about cafe citron. On a weekday night that place is pretty fun

                1. re: cleveland park

I've been a few times and always have been put off by how pricey their mojitos can be.

                  1. re: Elyssa

yea it may be a drawback, but the music is fun and so is the crowd. Only early weekdays, otherwise beware of the mob scene

        2. Proof is a great wine bar that you might enjoy in Gallery Place Chinatown. Then there is PX and the bar at Eve in Old Town Alexandria if you like cocktails, Todd Thrasher who is the bartender at those places is DC area's finest. I recommend a reservation for that though (you should call Eve for both). Also Oya in Galleryplace has interesting cocktails and has a little more of an intimate club feel.

          1. the big hunt right in dupont is a really fun place with good bartenders.

head up to adams morgan and have a couple of glasses of whiskey(and maybe some mac and cheese or sweet potato chips) at bourbon.

the black cat, near u st on 14th is full of 'trendy' types and has some really great bartenders and excellent jukebox
