Solo Sun. brunch: Galatoires or Com. Palace?

1st time in N.O. in 2 weeks for a conference and want to do Sunday brunch at one of the legendary, old school places. As a single diner (male in his 30s), will I be uncomfortable dining alone at CP or Galatoires? Is Brennan's a better choice? Thanks!

  1. Don't do Brennan's. Commander's or Gal's would be better than Brennan's. Commander's will have better food. Gal's will have a more interesting atmosphere. That said, I would pick Commander's. They have been excellent every time I've been since Katrina, and I can't say that for any other NOLA restaurant.

I concur with N.O. except the last statement. Cuvee, August, La Boca, Herbsaint, Rib Room, Irene's , Vincent's, Brigtsen's (need I go on?) have been consistently good.

I have been to most of the "name" restaurants in New Orleans by myself. I would give the nod to Commander's Palace for a single brunch, but I enjoyed brunch at Arnaud's by myself also. Both have Jazz combos that stroll through the restaurant. I have always been to Galatoires by myself but during late afternoon every time in order to not have to wait in line and fight the crowd. New Orleans is a good city to eat alone in. Lots of people do it.

    2. Galatoires hands down, and sit downstairs.
